V Bridgend

That is the third game we lost only this one, I think deservedly. Kicked badly to a team who responded with better kicks, we should recognise when tactics don't work and change them, not wait until halftime......it should be the captain's call. Hope Harry's injury is not too bad, they took quite a while seeing to him which suggests its severity but fingers crossed.

Frustrating game, we started strongly in the first 15 mins, cut through the middle quite a few times but some poor handling or decisions near the line stopped the moves dead. Too much cross kicking with nothing on.

Bridgend really didn't create or threaten at all but managed to get scores regardless.
First try our now too common poor defence out wide on the right, simple missed 1v1 and a try. Second was going nowhere, speculative cross kick, 2 Ebbw players were closest but didnt communicate and allowed it to be grounded.

Second half we went off the boil, Bridgend again created nothing but we were plagued by bad decisions and sloppy play. 2 quick tries looked like we'd woken up but then we reverted to type with the same ineffective play as before.

A little bad luck in the end - a yellow card for what looked like a perfectly genuine interception attempt that just couldn't be gathered.
The current rule interpretations make it too risky to go for an intercept if you don't have a 100% chance of gathering - if you miss it its a yellow. (See also being too risky to challenge for a high ball in case you miss and get red carded).
Try came directly off that call, made more galling by near the end a clear professional foul 5m from the Bridgend line resulted in only a penalty (which we missed).

Injuries caused issues but what looked serious at the time according to EVRFC earlier is OK. Stated he went to hospital for checks and is now home which is great news. We picked up a few other nasty looking knocks as well towards the end.

Thats the 3rd game in a row we've lost late on but this one is a little more concerning in that it was against a bottom of the table club that at no point looked anything other than a bottom of the table club.

A week off to regroup, rethink and hopefully recover from the various knocks. Probably a good time to have a break and reset.

Still, i bet the Bridgend fan is happy about the result (if he turned up today).
