Uncontested scrums !

Post by String »

Given we got docked points for uncontested scrums its incredible that europes premier tournament ALLOWS these without losing a match.

Turks getting a pasting off Tolouse, get injuries, move to uncontested scrums yet get to keep playing. Gave them a huge advantage, gifted them ball off their own put in for the backs to run in 2 tries off. Meant Toulouse despite 5m out for multiple times unable to apply pressure and score.

Surely in a competition of this stature you HAVE to forfeit a game if unable to compete. You shouldnt be allowed tries in the league table if they came off an uncontested set piece.
Whats to stop a team getting hammered up front deciding their front row is injured, moving to uncontested scrums and instantly nullifying their opponents main weapon?

Rant over.

We didn't though, did we? We got docked points for dishonestly telling the referee that our replacement was unable to prop when, in fact, he'd played at tight head on numerous occasions as was shown on team sheets on the club website.

Sorry to spoil a good rant, like.

Which resulted in uncontested scrums which cost us the game (we had 2 games last year where we were docked points, once in the cup and once in the league).

Uncontested scrums

Generalising, perhaps the answer is that the team that is capable of contesting scrums gets the put-in throughout the remainder of the match.

That would make more sense. If you cant contest at scrums you either lose the game OR the opposition always win the scrum. Failing that, always an opposition free kick instead of a scrum.

I cant see how you can let a team unable to srummage use it as an advantage.

We got kicked out of the cup, not because we went to uncontested scrums, but because Alan.H was a useless waste of time and money.

Not only did he not get the neccesary paperwork for the boy to play on loan for us, but his head was then too far up his own anus too apologise.

If he had done so, they were willing not to take it any further, and we would have remained in the cup.

As for scrums, you have to have 2 props on the bench to cover the front row. If three props get injured, then its not your fault, and uncontested scrums doesnt result in the loss of points.

However. If you start with just 1 prop on the bench, and 2 get injured, then you did not have sufficient cover and therefore results in loss of points.

We had cover on the bench that could actaully prop, but lied to the ref about this, and was a stupid decision. It was our fault.

I do agree though. It doesn't seem fair that if a side is struggling, it can invent injuries to their front row to nullify the threat of a dominant pack. Something needs to be changed
