How green was my Ebbw

Post by Graham »

Anyone know why they are chopping down all the trees that line the main road that goes into town? It's probably the nicest looking stretch of road in Ebbw Vale.

Apparently because whatever rocket scientist bought the original species of trees didnt read the part in the small print about wide spreading shallow roots.

Those roots are now destroying the footpath/pavement and in time threaten the road.

IIRC some are being removed, some just trimmed as theyre too tall.

Personally i want 300ft tall ones put there instead to hide my view of the new green eyesore that is the multi storey car park!

Oh yes!! the multi-storey Car Park.

Did you know that part of our Council tax is going on lighting up that eyesore all night!!!
The council are implementing an increase in the council tax to cover the extra costs (FACT!!!).

How many people would vote in favour of that??
Just the little things the normal man/woman in the street never get told!!!!!!

Well, we do have access to our local politicians at most home games, so we could just mention it to them. Although, the last time I mentioned the architectural wonder that is the multi-storey, it was met with stoney silence!
Rugby, I can take it or leave it see.

I think it is a real case of "light pollution". However, if they alternated the colours on each storey so that it was red, greem and white............

That is pretty poor planning.

Got a comment off someone that the multi storey at night looks like a Casino.

Thinking about it its true. Wouldnt look out of place in Vegas. All it needs is a tacky 100m tall glow in the dark pharaoh or something.

At least Casinos pay for themselves!!

I think its a bloody cheek that the council are budgeting into their next year costs for lighting of this monstrosity 24Hrs a day. It will mean in the end higher Council tax for all of us.

Has anyone noticed that the Boy Racers are gathering on the ground level part of the multistorey at night???
This wouldn't happen if the bloody thing was in darkness!!!
Dry and well light and of course youre going to get them gathering there. Next they'll complain when they get graffiti!!

Am I the only one who likes it?
You drive down the incline from Beaufort of an evening and catch site of the car park illuminated in the distance and, if only for a split second, you think that a cruise ship has docked adjacent to the County Hotel :D

In this weather anything can happen.

I've seen some pretty strange things outside the County Hotel on a Friday night.

It used to only be an eyesore in daytime, but now its one all the time. I was driving back from Crickhowel the other night, over the moores. As soon as i got to the top i could see it. Im sure it can be seen from all directions. Maybe its meant to be some kind of homing beacon for prople to find their way home at night. Who needs the North star when you have the Multi-Story.

It is a beacon. I understand several multistory carparks have recently been designed like this and from space they form a coded message warning alien lifeforms not to approach a Welsh referee when wanting the scrum law explained. Somebody else told me they all made a perfect straight line from Whitehall to the new training base at St Athan to allow a new stealth jet to carry top brass back and forth. Fool!

I'm up for Graham's previous posting..

..Everyone write / phone / shout to the council and make them change the lighting to ref / white & green (alternate floors)..

   8)
